What SafeTrace is
SafeTrace is a software-first SaaS product for construction and industrial workplaces. It answers two questions: who is on this site right now, and who is still unaccounted for in an emergency.
Software first
The customer buys a subscription, not a pile of hardware up front. The smart badge is included in the subscription. We ship a kit (badges and gateways) so the software can see people on site.
Safety first, not security first
SafeTrace is built to get everyone accounted for during a muster. It is not an access-control or alarm system. Door cards can still open doors. SafeTrace’s job is presence and emergency accounting.
2 · Locked
Domain selected
A domain is the product’s address on the internet — the name people type, the name on invoices, and the name on login screens. We locked one name so every environment stays consistent.
LOCKED: safetrace.tech is registered and
held at IONOS. That is the official product domain.

3 · How it works
How it works
A credit-card-sized smart badge quietly chirps over Bluetooth. A gateway we provide listens. The cloud shows who is on site. Workers do not need phones.
- Each person on site wears a smart badge (CR80, the same size as a typical ID or door card).
- The badge chirps Bluetooth on its own. No tap, no app, no worker action.
- A gateway in the kit listens for those chirps. We provide the gateways. The customer does not have to shop for them.
- The gateway sends a short, secure message to the SafeTrace cloud.
- Supervisors see who is on site and, in an emergency, who is still missing from muster.
Figure A. The everyday path: badge → gateway → cloud. Phones are optional extra scanners, not a requirement for workers.
4 · Language
Glossary in plain language
Use this page in a meeting. These are the words you will hear, said the way a non-technical stakeholder needs them.
- SaaS
- Software as a Service. You subscribe. We run the product in the cloud. You log in with a browser. No SafeTrace server PC to buy or babysit for Base.
- Tenant
- One customer’s private workspace. Acme Construction cannot see Beta Steel’s people, sites, or muster lists.
- Site
- One physical workplace — a job, plant, or yard — inside a tenant.
- Smart badge / CR80
- A credit-card-sized badge (CR80 is the standard size) that advertises itself over Bluetooth so SafeTrace can see it.
- RFID door card
- The plastic card that opens a gate or door. Useful for access. Not the same job as SafeTrace. A SafeTrace badge may also carry RFID so one card still opens the door.
- Bluetooth / BLE
- A short-range radio already in phones and many badges. BLE means Bluetooth Low Energy: a quiet, battery-friendly chirp.
- iBeacon
- A simple Bluetooth message format. The badge says “I am badge number X at site Y.” Gateways and phones understand that message.
- Gateway
- A small listener we include in the kit. It hears badges and forwards sightings to the cloud. Minew-class units are the hardware family we use.
- Phone-as-scanner
- An optional SafeTrace phone app that can also hear badges. Useful for extra coverage. Workers still do not need to carry a phone for the system to work.
- Phone queue / offline queue
- A waiting list of sightings saved on the gateway or phone when the internet is down. When the link returns, the list is sent.
- Presence
- “We saw this badge here, recently.” Presence is last-seen evidence, not a GPS pin and not a lock on a door.
- Muster
- The emergency roll call. SafeTrace shows who is accounted for and who is still missing.
- EAP
- Emergency Action Plan. The agreed steps a site follows when something goes wrong. SafeTrace is the software that runs that plan.
- API
- The cloud’s service window. Gateways and the phone app send presence through this window. Stakeholders do not use it directly.
- HTTPS
- The ordinary secure web connection. Same idea as a bank website: the message is encrypted on the way to SafeTrace.
- Base → Site → Field
- The product ladder. Base is the cloud product for company HQ. Site and Field come later for richer job-site and crew workflows.
5 · Resilience
When Wi-Fi or the internet dies
Construction sites lose connectivity. SafeTrace is designed for that. Sightings are not thrown away.
If the gateway or phone cannot reach the cloud, it saves the sightings in a local queue and sends them later. Supervisors still get the story when the link returns. Workers keep wearing the same badge. Nobody has to “check in” on a phone.
Figure B. Online path versus store-and-forward queues. The optional phone queue is extra coverage. It is not the worker’s responsibility.
6 · Architecture
Architecture: cloud SaaS + thin edge
For Base, the brain lives in the cloud. The site only needs thin hardware we already put in the kit.
Cloud SaaS
Login, tenant data, live presence, and muster live in SafeTrace cloud software. Customers use a browser. We operate the service.
Thin edge
On site you have smart badges, Minew-class gateways, and an optional phone app. That is the whole edge for Base.
7 · Journey
Customer journey — nine steps
From first conversation to a live muster drill. This is the path we sell and deliver.
- Discover Safety and operations hear about SafeTrace and the EAP / muster problem it solves.
- Demo We walk through presence and a muster on the staging app, in plain language.
- Subscribe The company buys the SaaS plan. Badges are in the subscription.
- Provision tenant We create their private workspace and first admin login.
- Ship kit Badges and the gateways we provide go to the site.
- Onboarding wizard Name the site, place gateways, confirm the cloud can hear them.
- Badge issue Gate staff hand a badge to each employee, contractor, or visitor.
- Live presence The board shows who is on site as badges chirp and gateways listen.
- Muster drill The site runs the EAP. Accounted / unaccounted is visible in minutes.
8 · Roadmap
Base vs later Site / Field
We ship Base first. Site and Field extend the same idea later. They do not replace the cloud, and they do not put a SafeTrace PC on a Base site.
| Base (now) | Site / Field (later) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Company HQ and the first live sites | Richer per-site operations and field crews |
| Where the brain lives | Cloud SaaS. No on-site SafeTrace server PC | Still cloud-first; more site and crew workflows |
| Hardware on site | Kit we ship: smart badges + gateways we provide | Same kit model, more coverage as sites and crews grow |
| How people are seen | Badge chirps; gateway listens; optional phone scanner | Same presence path, tuned for more locations and crews |
| Offline | Gateway and phone queues save sightings and send later | Same queue idea, with deeper site playbooks later |
| Muster / EAP | Cloud muster board for the tenant’s sites | Site-specific drills and field-crew accounting |
9 · People
Roles
Everyone has a simple job. Most people on site only wear a badge.
| Role | What they do | Need a SafeTrace login? |
|---|---|---|
| Tenant admin | Owns the company workspace, sites, and who may sign in | Yes |
| Site safety lead | Runs the EAP and the muster for a site | Yes |
| Gate / badge operator | Issues and returns badges at the gate | Yes |
| Employee | Wears a badge while on site. Does not need a phone | No |
| Contractor | Same as an employee: badge on, work, badge back | No |
| Visitor | Gets a temporary badge for the visit | No |
| SafeTrace onboarding | Provisions the tenant and ships the kit | Internal |
10 · Remember
Key takeaways
- SafeTrace is SaaS for EAP and muster — software first, safety first, badge in the subscription.
-
The domain is locked:
safetrace.techat IONOS. Staging isapp-staging/api-staging. Productionapp/apicome later. - Badges chirp. Gateways listen. The cloud shows who is on site. We provide the gateways. Workers do not need phones.
- When Wi-Fi dies, queues save sightings on the gateway and optional phone, then send them later.
- Base is cloud + thin edge. There is no on-site SafeTrace server PC for Base.
- The customer path is nine steps from Discover to Muster drill. Site and Field come later on the same ladder.
